Greta Thunberg and Eco Venture Capitalists

The climate change activism has recruited a young teenage autistic girl called Greta Thunberg. Autism advocates are thrilled with her for showing what kind of difference a girl with aspergers syndrome can do to change the world. Greta’s story is a strong one for me and as an autism advocate myself I like her. She has a good heart and strong mind for what she believes in and does it gallantly. But I don’t look up to her as an autism hero. She’s not my kind of climate activist or autism warrior.

Greta shows great potential as an eco-warrior and I salute her for that. But she doesn’t look like an individual standing up for freedom of choice and association for autistics. She is part of a cult and looks like a figurehead for an oppressive resistance that is exaggerating the climate change party as an emergency. This shows them as gaslighting an autistic and making Greta feel doubtful about her existence and that her validity comes from them.

I’ve seen Gretas speeches on You Tube where she spoke about how she became frightful after hearing climate change that led to her starting a protest movement. She did it by a school walkout in which students went out of school to protest against climate change at government buildings.

On her protest outside the Swedish Parliament Greta said about how her school teachers told her about climate change and that the solutions to the problems exist but ‘we need to wake up and change’. Well those changes are being made right now, its just that the government is not solution to the climate crisis, the free market and venture capitalists are the solution.

Here is my own campaign for a solution to climate change as an autistic conservative and a science geek.

Greta has been striking from school for quite some time and I am glad that she has taken herself out of school. However unlike Greta I wouldn’t have left school because of worrying teachers, I would have left because they were hopeless and not teaching me anything useful other than chronic fear. They abuse their power to push their own agenda on children and make up horror stories that their future will be stolen. Well I have never had my future stolen from me because I know how to build it. Greta should know how to campaign for people to build a better future from brilliant and creative people not government ministers.

I think Greta’s latest stunt to sail to America to give a speech at the UN will be a good trip. I wish that during the trip she will brainstorm sales pitches to the UN on what kind of solutions can be put into practice to fix pollution problems. For every 10 stories about climate change, 9 of them are horror disasters and 1 of them are about a solution. Well here I am going to give you 9 solutions to problems and link fundraisers to them to invest your money and time into solving them. Capitalism can fix the climate crisis, not state controls.

1. The Ocean Clean Up

A Dutch company founded by an 18 year called Boyan Slat in 2013. Ocean Clean Ups mission is to build a massive garbage scoop on the water to collect and accumulate floating rubbish in the Pacific. It currently has over 80 staff running it and at the moment it is set to test one of their rubbish collection rings. 2. Distributing Water Management technology from Israel

Some of these eco activists are supporters of the BDS movement that seeks to undermine and sabotage the economic and political operations of Israel. This is one of the biggest weaknesses in the ecology crusade. They are useful idiots that serve the destructive mission of Islamic state fundamentalists that want to destroy the Jews from the Earth. I have seen some of them in their protests wave Paletine flags. But what they should know if they are the slightest bit decent is to see that Israel is a desert nation that can solve the worlds water shortages and save the climate.

I work as an intern at Africa House London and we build and develop projects that can be built by African countries that can make them independent of aid and become economically self sufficient. Some of these countries are being sold technology developed by Israel to fertilise and aquafy them to grow crops and provide water supplies to their people.

Israel developed this technology during the founding years of the 1940s when they were a desert nation. The Jews developed many innovations in agricultural and water management systems. One of these is a technique called drip irrigation which allows plants to be grown using small quantities from a consistent water source. By using low amounts of water for plants and crops they can build communities and produce carbon extraction systems. Massive greenhouses and water desalination plants have the potential to green Africa all over and make them lush and fertile lands. 3. Hydrogen fuel cell cars

Governments of Europe including Britain have begun a directive to the car industry to phase out petrol and diesel cars. Since the 1980s there have been a number of small firms developing alternative fuel systems in automotive industries. Riversimple is a Welsh scientific research firm that is investing in developing hydrogen fuel cell cars.

The technology that can make cars go without producing toxic emissions is very much out there but to make it work across the whole nation requires an infrastructure revolution in the same way that the petrol pump was rolled out in the 1920s. In 2017 Shell launched its first ever hydrogen fuel pump on the M25 and with backing from financial and government backing they can roll it out across the country more quickly.

4. High Speed Rail lobbying

This scheme appeals to me greatly as a train fan and an active traveller. I love trains and prefer this mood of travel to airlines within Britain. But there is something about UK train travel that seems to be stuck at the buffers. In the 1960s and 70s France, Germany, Italy and Spain actively invested millions in upgrading their railways for high speed travel. I’ve written about this before and I think it’s time we upgraded the lines or built new rails.

If the environmental lobbyists want less air travel then they should lobby for improvements in railways. Now in the 1950s train travel drastically reduced when common people finally had enough money to afford their own cars. The romance with speed was about personal transport and freedom for the people to choose their own destination. In the process the railways got neglected and left to crumble. But now I think we can improve the environment and get people to travel by train more often by advocating for improvements in railways.

At present the current train journey time from London to Edinburgh is about 5 hours. A modern high speed train could make that journey in 3-4 hours providing the railway is upgraded to a better standard that allow for high speeds. This can include straightening the lines in places, making curved sections inclined to reduce centrifugal forces as the trains bank into corners, and sharing the running of the trains between operators and the state.

If the environmental activists can lobby for change in government then they can lobby for the railways. 5. The Abolition and Reduction of Plastics

Plastic pollution has only recently become a big issue. David Attenborough’s nature TV show Blue Planet 2 featured an episode where a pilot whale was carrying a dead calf in it’s mouth. The calf had been dead from swallowing a large plastic item that it had swallowed in the ocean. It was one of the most heartbreaking scenes in TV history. I had never been so upset by the death of a magnificent creature like that.

Plastics are now a material that we need to reduce drastically. Materials scientists know quite a lot of things that can be made from alternative materials. When I became interested in 3D Printing I learnt that there is a bioplastic that can be composted and is made from natural products.

The plastic that Lego bricks are made from is called ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) and it’s very strong and chemical based. The other which is plant based is PLA (poly lactic acid). It is just as strong as ABS but it can break down in the soil without being consumed by animals. They say that there are billions of Lego bricks in the world with Lego making 600 bricks a second. That’s a lot of potential landfill that can be wasted over the course of time. Maybe it’s time that Lego started changing from ABS to PLA for their products. 6. Home Micro Farming

In the war years when rationing was implemented to conserve food sources the public were encouraged to grow their own food supply in their back gardens to help themselves. Some people today do this as a hobby to save on shopping for fruit and vegetables, outdoor recreation and having an active lifestyle.

I reckon this activity can be a useful boon to the environmental activism. Being green fingered and growing your own produce has many social as well as environmental benefits. It encourages social responsibility, it teaches you a practical way of understanding ecology and it makes you mentally fit and happy. Plus it will encourage people to appreciate the environment better and look after it.

Bringing agriculture to your own backyard can also transfer to the front of your house whereby you can bring trees to the roadside to improve the air quality. Some cities have large numbers of roadside trees to absorb the air pollution and the heat of the city to reduce the effect of a heatwave. 7. Decentralised Economies and Regional Development

One of the worst arguments for solving the climate crisis is big government, control of industrial output and centralised economies. It isn’t right for the country and it doesn’t serve the environment well. In the past I have argued against the ever growing expansion of my home city of London. The reason for this is because it has limited the influence and significance of the nations and regions beyond the M25. There is a lot of potential for places like Yorkshire, the Dales, Wales and the Midlands to contribute to the economy.

My case for decentralisation lies in the oversized boundaries of London that are taking land, greenspace and leafy towns and boroughs from the neighbouring counties. My current city of Romford used to be part of Essex but is now in a borough controlled from London. Over the last 50 years the greenery has gradually disappeared as the population has become more dense. It feels like an inner London suburb here instead of a market town.

What needs to be done is to reduce the size of London and let the other big cities across Britain have some major contribution to the economy. The GLA is trying to tackle a climate change of it’s own by reducing the toxic air in the city and some of it’s AMs seem to be missing the point that building more is increasing traffic in the city. How do you expect the city to reduce it’s emissions if you persist in making sure that London has more productivity than Liverpool or Manchester?

This story here is probably going to be one that might seem more like an administration issue. It’s actually a sign that I am giving to you to encourage places outside of London to invest their businesses in their own towns with an environmental aim. That aim is to spread the wealth out elsewhere so that other places have their own wealth to generate and stop London from choking itself to death.

9. Power Generators fuelled by Rubbish

A while ago I discovered a video about Sweden’s recycling and energy production. This comes straight from Greta Thunberg’s home country and having seen this I can see how the country’s commitment to environmental science has influenced her politics. In Britain we generate about 27 million tonnes of waste every year, of which 45% is recycled (12 million tonnes). You can get 1 tonne of energy from 3 tonnes of waste so that would be a potential of 4 million tonnes of energy generated from rubbish.

Sweden’s waste management has been so useful and active in keeping the country green that they have only 1% of their waste in landfill. To make sure that they rely on the power generation from waste and demonstrate it’s effectiveness to the world they import waste from other countries. Now imagine if Britain introduced a waste management programme to the country. I reckon Greta could be a useful salesperson of environmental health technology and energy production like this that would make her an effective campaigner. I want to see this kind of technology here in Britain and I reckon she would make a great brand ambassador and eco business woman for a distribution company that sells waste to energy programmes across the world.

  1. Some good points, but why must electric cars be so expensive? And sorting out the rail system in UK would be astronomically expensive. In Europe funds were given by the EEC, and they were already set up for double decker trains, in that the bridges were already high enough to support them. The bridges in UK are so low, all would need to be replaced. Generally the rail network system is so archaic it would virtually need to be started again from scratch. As for the plastic etc what is wrong with going back to glass which can be recycled. I know this would account for only a percentage of plastic, but more and more products are being packaged in plastic. I refuse to buy olive oil in plastic. And would much prefer to have the choice of buying water in glass. But I do think despite all your points the main change needs to be in attitudes, especially in those with money,power and influence. Otherwise no amount of talking, writing or good ideas and intentions will solve anything. Let’s not pretend that there are still way too many people who actually don’t care and/or don’t want to hear. Greta is still young…give her a chance.

    • I’ll try to answer every bit of detail to your questions. The expensiveness of electric cars is due to a combination of different factors. One of them being that they are not selling so well because of negative reviews. Jeremy Clarkson often likes to mock eco-cars in all different forms on his TV shows. He felt the wrath of Tesla when he mislead viewers on Top Gear about the speed and efficiency of one of their cars that they banned him from reviewing for a long time. I remember one episode of Top Gear when Nissan and Toyota got angry because he and James May claimed that their electric cars did not last long enough in their reviews. The cost of production is also a reason for their price. Electric batteries are made of a metal called nickel, which isn’t as common as steel. It’s very hard to mine and refine it and most of it comes from countries that have bad labour laws and no health and safety laws in mining operations.

      Then there is the railways. I think High Speed 2 isn’t working well in it’s construction because of the way the UK rail networks operate. The franchises are private and run their own services and rolling stock but the government runs the maintenance and operations of the rails themselves. What I would like to see is first a scrapping of HS2 and then create an entirely new plan for the building of the lines. First grant the franchises contracts to upgrade their own lines and create sections of high speed line through their own territories. Second, the franchises can then interconnect the lines and have their own semi autonomy on parts of the track.

      I would be willing to stick with certain materials from old fashioned materials like glass for specific products. Take plastic cups for example, they stopped selling glass bottles in football stadiums because hooligans tend to use them to attack rival fans by breaking them. So lets use PLA plastic cups for them and return to glass for milk bottles which is a lot more useful for us because it means we will have less plastic to dispose of in the weekly bin collections.

      Finally for the change in attitudes and power and influence that is something that I think we need to do constructively not hysterically. As I said earlier the climate change activists are acting like pesky showstoppers instead of creative lobbyists and entrepreneurs. Some people in my circle are irritated by Greta Thunberg portraying her as a deranged teenage schoolgirl. Those are from my conservative friends, but my autistic activist friends look up to her as a hero showing that neurodiversity can make a difference. I want to make a difference as an actual autistic myself but not as a victim of a horrid world that frightens little people like Greta. I want to fight for freedom and rights of self determination for autistics where they have equal civil rights to make a living for themselves. This can also include making eco businesses for people to help combat climate change.
