I have been working hard on my first fortnight at university and it has been a very busy time for to try and fit in and adapt to my surroundings. In the time that I have been here at Royal Holloway I have also been flexing my creative muscles and looking at developing ideas to better myself. One of them was to improve the look of my blog.
In the past I have run this blog as the Grand Geek of Essex. That was because I saw myself as a great geek who needed to bring a touch of genius to a British county that is associated with preened, flamboyant youngsters and lame brained townsfolk with an annoying accent. Such stereotypes made me want to create an identity where I could write about from the perspective of someone who has a different understanding of Essex. There is also another project that I have that is related to that story, which can come later.
However I have a lot of passions that I like to indulge in and share with people. There are so many that I could share that it would be a pity to focus only one interests. So for that I decided to rebrand my blog and my online presence with something better. I now use my blog name as AC Keeble and my passions and content are centered around three subheadings.
First there’s the Autistic Conservative. I am a proud political activist who likes to speak up for mental health and autism. I am a genuine aspie geek who believes that conservativism and objectivism are key ideologies for enforcing the strengths, abilities and usefulness of autism. For far too long disability issues are often associated as a leftist campaign speaking up for someone with a concept that pictures them as pitied, pathetic, hopeless, useless creatures. That is insufferable, demeaning and patronising for me and I don’t like it.
Grand Geek of Essex
Second is the Grand Geek of Essex. I have a fondness for reading and talking about science and nature, history and politics, geography and travel. My fascination with the world knows no bounds. I refuse to conform to any one ideal and be honest and open about my knowledge. Sharing it with other people and giving them some amazing stories to read about. I have a book that has recently been self published called ‘A Puzzle in a Tunnel’ and I have now included it’s details in a link embedded on my blog.
Thirdly there’s my other identity that I have become known for amongst the archery community, the representative of Commonwealth archery. It is a title I give to myself because I have the skills and abilities of promoting a minority sport through social and civil enterprise. I have combined my political interests to promote minority sports and to strengthen connections with the Commonwealth of nations. Archery is about community, health, wellbeing and passion. Archery is a strong test of physical and mental abilities and for that I strongly believe that it ought to be a core sport in the Commonwealth Games.
Now it is time for a new set of adventures. I hope that you will enjoy my new set of adventures as I intend to do. I am now studying environmental geology and I hope to take the time to build a very fulfilling life here in Egham. Now I need to get back to reading. I have just been reading through another one of Ayn Rand’s novels, there is a geology field trip coming up to South Devon and I have a change of routine coming up. I also need to decide on my next creative project. What’s it gonna be? Maybe I should write about the constant servings I keep putting on my plate!
